Objective of Project:

Green nano / micro technology-based formulation(s) for directly targeting MDR TB bacteria in the lungs.

Impact Factor or Potential:

Aerosol formulation(s) will be employed to kill numbers of viable TB bacteria directly in the lungs. The technology may be useful alone and / or in conjunction with first / second line antibiotics for TB. The approach will overcome resistance and reduce side effects associated with current therapy. Finally, this may be helpful in treating MDR cases.

Current Achievement:

  • Identification of anti TB compounds (natural) and their characterisation
  • In vitro characterisation of developed formulations in H37rv and MDR TB strain
  • Preclinical studies in small animal models

Anti-TB Assay:

Showed good potency (in vitro) against H37rv & MDR TB strain.

Pre-clinical studies in TB infected Mice (Jalma: ICMR, Agra):

To check the potency of plain drug.

Experiments in MDR TB infected mice (Mexico, in Process):

Intra-tracheal instillation of formulation for directly targeting to the lungs.
