Dengue poses a significant global health challenge, especially for countries in Asia that account for 70 percent of the global burden of dengue. India experiences frequent outbreaks with an estimated 33 million clinically apparent dengue cases occurring each year. Climate change exacerbates this problem, with rising temperatures and changing rainfall patterns expanding the geographic range of dengue vectors. Compounded by gaps in care, such as delays in diagnosis, dengue cases continue to rise, highlighting the urgent need for sustained efforts to improve vector control and preventive care. Innovations in surveillance and diagnostics offer promising avenues to enhance early detection and response, ultimately reducing the burden of dengue on communities worldwide.
India Health Fund is committed to fighting infectious diseases like dengue in India, through support for innovative approaches in screening, diagnostics and surveillance. IHF-supported innovations like Moskeet and ASSURED test are already demonstrating a positive impact in reducing the burden of dengue, giving us reason to be hopeful for the future.
