We support innovation development and adoption to improve healthcare outcomes around the world

Who We Are

India Health Fund is a not-for-profit organization that was set up as a collaborative initiative of Tata Trusts and The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. Our mission is to help reduce preventable deaths from communicable diseases and other public health risks. We do this by de-risking the development of promising technology and science-led solutions that have the potential to make a significant difference in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of these diseases. We collaborate with the public and private sectors to facilitate the development, adoption and scaling of these solutions. Our aim is to improve health outcomes, with a focus on primary care and in low resource settings.

What We Do

We incubate and finance the development and adoption of science and technology-led healthcare solutions in collaboration with our partners. The solutions we support focus on addressing need gaps in 5 areas related to communicable diseases:

1. Screening
2. Diagnostics
3. Infection Control
4. Treatment and Care Pathways
5. Digital Interventions and Surveillance

We support innovations that can be adopted at scale and in low resource settings around the world. We aim to be capital efficient in development and cost effective in use to ensure strong investment and use cases. Our partnerships and collaborations help stimulate investments in healthcare, accelerate the adoption of new solutions which can ultimately improve outcomes for patients and ensure large scale impact.

How We Do It

Our Approach ensures that the solutions we support adequately address the existing gaps in healthcare delivery, offer optimal capital efficiency and deliver wide-scale impact. We follow a 5 step approach:

1. Identify and prioritize problems
2. Find and fund innovations
3. Portfolio management
4. Collaborations and Partnerships
5. Market entry, adoption into the health system and access

Annual Report

India Health Fund was founded by the Tata Trusts in 2016, soon after the UN SDG goals were penned, in an effort to eliminate communicable diseases. Fast forward half a decade, today, India Health Fund is de-risking the development of 16 science-backed innovations — diagnostics, digital tools, and platforms — for infectious diseases. Six of these game-changing tools are now in use in public health settings, at a minimal or no cost to patients in the remotest corners of the country.

In our latest annual report 2023-2024, we recollect and reflect on the progress and
pitfalls of the year that went by, and invite you to join us in this journey.

Our Genesis

IHF was seeded by Tata Trusts  with strategic support from The Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. In line with the Trusts’ vision of creating institutions focussed on research and sustainable long term solutions to health challenges, IHF was conceived to accelerate progress towards the sustainable development goal of eliminating Tuberculosis (TB) and Malaria. IHF does this by supporting innovation development and adoption to improve healthcare outcomes around the world. While the initial focus was on Tuberculosis, Malaria and other Vector-borne diseases, we have expanded our work to also address other communicable diseases. IHF is envisioned to be an organization which will collaborate with the private and public sectors to develop and scale up innovative solutions, business models and financing mechanisms to improve outcomes in diagnosis, treatment, prevention and eventual elimination of infectious diseases.
